Soil Investigation
- Geotechnical & ground investigation
- Remote • Hybrid • Onsite
- Indicative: $250 – $1,300
From borehole planning to the final report, Soil Investigation is organised around one question: what will the ground do under your structure? Field and laboratory investigation of soil conditions.
What Soil Investigation covers
- Desk study of geology, nearby investigations, flood history and any known ground hazards.
- Investigation planning: number, depth and spacing of boreholes or trial pits matched to structure type and loads.
- Field work coordination including drilling, standard penetration tests and sampling by qualified crews.
- Laboratory testing coordination for classification, strength, consolidation and chemical parameters as scoped.
- Interpretation of soil profiles, groundwater levels and recommended foundation options.
- Bearing capacity and settlement guidance for the foundation types being considered.
How Soil Investigation works
- Scope and desk study. We review the structure type, loads and site history, then define the investigation programme.
- Investigation plan. Locations, depths and tests are agreed, along with access, utilities clearance and safety arrangements.
- Field work. Drilling, in-situ testing and sampling are carried out and logged on site.
- Laboratory testing. Samples are tested at an appropriate laboratory against the scoped parameters.
- Report and recommendations. Findings are interpreted into a report with logs, parameters and foundation recommendations.
Deliverables
- Soil profile and groundwater summary
- Recommended foundation type and design parameters
- Site investigation plan with locations
- Factual and interpretative report in PDF and editable form
- Borehole and trial-pit logs

Soil Investigation: frequently asked questions
How much does Soil Investigation cost?
PMCEPC publishes an indicative rate of $250 – $1,300 for Soil Investigation. The final fee depends on scope, location, complexity, deliverables and timeline, and is confirmed in a written quotation before work starts.
Do you provide the foundation design too?
Our scope covers investigation and recommendations. Structural foundation design can be added as a separate scope with our engineering team or your designer.
How deep should a ground investigation go?
Depth depends on the structure, its loads and the ground. As a rule it should extend through weak layers to competent strata or to a depth where foundation stresses become negligible. The final depth is set in the investigation plan and reviewed as logs come in.
Can Soil Investigation be delivered remotely or onsite?
PMCEPC delivers remotely, in hybrid mode or onsite depending on the assignment. Desk work such as review, analysis, drafting and reporting is usually remote, while site measurement, inspection and meetings are arranged onsite where location and permissions allow. Travel and living costs are quoted separately.
